Latte art - not sure if I’ll be okay drinking something I worked so hard to make pretty.

Here are some favorites I found on Google Images.

Epic food fight.

“Today’s entree: Top Ramen in a Spicy Cajun Sesame Oyster Vinegar base garnished with Scallions. Served with Spam Filet on top of a scrambled egg and garnished with Red Kamaboko.”

“Today I cooked a lean pocket. To spice it up, I added Sriracha. I call it: Bef de Barbeque au Sriracha.”

Those lazy days..

Adam tells me I should blog everything that I cook.

This means blogging every non-pretty, just-thrown-together plates that I eat when I am just too tired or lazy to cook anything fancier. This also means blogging any “cheater” meals including frozen burritos or frozen foods from Trader Joe’s that come in bags.

Of course, I envision my blog to be a grand display of my culinary prowess, making my readers jealous of all the awesomely fancy things I cook and eat on a regular basis. But alas, it isn’t, and this ‘culinary prowess’ shown in this blog is just a concentrated collection of inspired moments I have with random grocery store visits and by flipping through Bon Apetit magazines. There is absolutely no way I can cook like this all the time and afford this kind of grocery bill, and this means that I will occasionally rely on Tina’s Burritos or fried eggs & spam with rice.

This isn’t to say that I just plop these items on a plate and zap it in the microwave; I like to add things to them to make it taste better or because I know I can eat something better than a sad burrito that cost me 33 cents at Ralphs. Perhaps this is where Adam saw potential and told me it’s worth it to blog these - it’s all the creative things you can do to a boring frozen dinner to make it your own. The satisfaction is tenfold, knowing you weren’t so lazy to just eat something out of a can.

A few of my favorites:

Teriyaki chicken (Trader Joe’s frozen BBQ Chicken Teriyaki mixed with some edamame)

Spaghetti (Prego spaghetti sauce, spaghetti, ground beef, roma tomatoes, basil, garlic, olive oil, red pepper flakes)

And, for breakfast - Scrambled eggs with canadian bacon and pancake (Trader Joe’s brand mix) with fried bananas

Leftovers also make for interesting breakfast concoctions. Tried this - Scrambled eggs with leftover carnitas, carne asada, bits of tortellini, pepper, cheese, green onions. served with Trader Joe’s goat cheese croissants. The carnitas were from El Puerto Escondido in Inglewood, and the carne asada was from Hacienda Del Rey in Westchester/Marina Del Rey. Tortellini was something Adam had lying around and we bought the goat cheese croissants as an impulse purchase while walking through Trader Joe’s for some miscellaneous items.

What are some of your comfortable/lazy favorites?

“I get quite lazy about cooking because when I come back from work it is the last thing I want to do, really is spend loads of time cooking.”

“Save a cow, eat a vegetarian.”
